YEGEN -YEGEN

This vast view of mountains, valleys, villages and distant sea lay spread out like an illustration of the features of the world in a child's geography book
The English writer Gerald Brenan was perhaps Andalusia's last romantic traveller, and 'South from Granada' is one of his best known works. It deals with the landscapes and way of life in and around the Alpujarra village that was his home: Yegen. In the spirit of the writer, and with the unmistakable backdrop of one of the region's most emblematic villages, you will make a thoroughly active visit to this part of the Alpujarra. Located on the southeastern foothills of Sierra Nevada, below the San Juan peak (2,786m) and flanked by the Mecina and Valor rivers, Yegen is a high, peaceful village (at 1,000m) with mild weather. It lies between the provinces of Granada and Almería, enjoying spectacular views and allowing us to imagine the sea that lies hidden behind the Contraviesa mountains to the south. Here you will experience two or three days of true communion with the landscapes, peoples and trails of the Alpujarra.
Live the Journey: Alone, with family or friends, you will do two hikes on this tour: One is long, with wonderful views of the high Sierra, and the other is shorter, but packed with delightful spots amidst cultivated land and untouched landscapes that will let you get to know this village from every angle. Furthermore, your accommodation there will make you feel truly at home and you will sample delicious cooking. There is also the chance to visit a ham curer in Mecina Bombarón and peruse the photographs of El Dinamarca, a devoted lover of this village for the last 50 years.

Yegen -Yegen

Come and discover the valleys of Ugíjar and Cádiar and the handful of villages scattered about them. You will ride two tough circuits, with technical sections, always beautiful, perfect to do self-guided, but also available in a group of like.minded people.
Setting out to the south from the church in Yegen, it is easy to make out the ancient territories of Aben Humeya that we are about to explore: to the east, towards Valor-Ugíjar, and to the west, towards the great Berchules river that rushes down from the snowy peaks above, finally calming down on its arrival in the Cádiar valley, out there behind the ridge. A triangle that opens out from the natural balcony of Yegen to the south, towards the Contraviesa mountains, and behind them, the Mediterranean.
A route with a very varied terain, excellent local cuisines, stunning landscapes and views.

GRANADA -GRANADA

Alhama (Al-Hammam (The baths) in Arabic) was the most lamented city in the kingdom of Granada when it fell to the Christians. She awaits you on the other side of Granada?s Vega (plain) hanging over a spectacular gorge, which, almost six centuries ago, was unable to protect the town from Castilian conquest.
On this tour you will discover the landscapes of Alhama, in the foothills of the Almijara and Tejeda mountains. You will ride over terrain that begins in the fertile plain of Granada, passing on to the huge, sweeping olive groves of the Poniente region. Riding on ancient trails that lead to Alhama, you will discover the history of a town that played a crucial role in the conquest of the kingdom of Granada by the Catholic monarchs.
Heading out of Alhama. you will ride along the gorge at the town?s feet, discover the most ancient part of the town, and then head into the Almijara mountains before returning to Alhama.
On your way back to Granada you will ride through the landscapes of the ?Temple? region, as well as the old salt-mines and spa baths of La Malahá.
Live the Journey:
Riding from Granada to Alhama you will discover the roots and history of this little-known region. Alhama is home to a rich heritage as well as offering stunning views and warm hospitality? not to mention its delicious cuisine, sweets and wines. In addition to all this you will have the chance to relax in the town?s famous spa-baths. If you can, it is well worthwhile to stay a day or two more to explore the Axarquía region, to the south of Alhama.
