Our guides are small travel books that aim to go a little further than conventional ones. They try to convey the personal experience of people who have done the routes in question by bike or on foot. We want each route to be a means to discover and enjoy the region concerned.
Each guide begins outlining the route and its surroundings, often inspired in the footsteps of a historic figure, or otherwise by looking at the most important historic events to take place on the route.
The body of each guide comprises the narration of a traveller who has enjoyed the route for him/herself, recounting experiences and taking us step by step through the places along the way. We also take the greatest care over the practical side.
Each guide includes a chapter with maps and sketches (best used in conjunction with topographic scale maps) of the region, as well as technical route information (distances/time charts, exact location of towns and villages, water availability, altitude profiles). This information is highly precise, measured throughout using satellite positioning data. Furthermore, we include concise information on how to get to the departure point, connections with other routes, useful telephone numbers, accommodation, etc.
Besides the description of the route and its points of interest, our guides also include a detailed photographic “routometer” (terrain guide) so that you can follow the itinerary easily. It contains a photograph of each fork, crossing and turn-off, along with the correct direction to take.
To complement your route guide, you can also get precise GPS navigation information for the whole route; this means that en route you can concentrate on contemplating the landscapes and chatting with the people you come across on these ancient tracks and trails… because getting lost will be impossible. If you purchase this information it will be sent to you by e-mail. Using GPS compatible software (we recommend the tried and tested OziExplorer), you can load it onto your GPS receiver, and add your own remarks, use digital background maps to examine the route before you start, create your own routes combining sections from various different ones, etc.
